Printer-friendly versionPDF version

SUMMARY
Dental diseases refer to all pathological conditions that are associated with the oral
region, whether localized or secondary to underlying systemic disturbances. Most dental
diseases are preventable as long as an individual is armed with the right type of
knowledge to effect preventive measures and is motivated to do so. This study was
conducted amongst 84 nursing students who responded to the questionnaires that were
distributed, 38(45%) were males and 46(55%) were females. It assessed their
knowledge, attitude and behaviour on dental diseases. Nursing students have good
Knowledge on basic signs and symptoms of dental diseases. However, they are unaware
of the serious signs of the dental diseases such as discoloured teeth, only 33.3% thought it
to be a sign of dental diseases. They have poor practise as regards their dental check ups,
majority (39% wait till they are in pain to visit a dentist. For these students to be of
greater help to their patients, they should be taught more on dental diseases.
