SUMMMARY

Dental caries and periodontal diseases are still on the increase particularly in the third world. These diseases are however preventable through proper oral hygiene measures such as conventional tooth brushing supplemented by interdental cleaning Studies done elsewhere have shown poor knowledge of interdental cleaning and practice among students.

This study aims to determine the knowledge, attitude and practice of interdental cleaning among the

undergraduate Dental and Medical students at the University of Nairobi. This will be a descriptive cross

sectional study. Convenience sampling method will be used to select the sample. A total of 163 students

will be interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire. The results of this study will be used to set up an education curriculum for the students with emphasis on proper oral hygiene and this knowledge can later be passed on to the general public. .
