The pattern of tumours of the oral cavity and related structures in Kenyan children aged between 0-15 years in a Nairobi hospital

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

SUMMARY
The aim of this study is to detennine the pattern of tumours of the oral cavity and
related structures in Kenyan children aged between 0-15 years attending a
Nairobi hospital with special emphasis on age, sex, anatomical site of the lesion,
tumour characteristic (Le. malignant or benign), histological type and the
management of these lesions.
This will be a descriptive cross-sectional study carried out at Kenyatta National
Hospital (KNH) which is the biggest teaching and referral hospital in Kenya and
at which most oral lesions are managed. A convenient sampling will be done to
select the respondents. A self constructed data collection form will be used to
collect data which will be analysed by use of SPSS computer software. It is
hoped that results from this study will help provide a clearer picture on paediatric
neoplasms of the head and neck region in Kenyan children as their presentation
is not clearly documented.
